Paper Tole, 3-dimensional decoupage or Dimensional Layering all describe a technique of creating a 3D image from a 2-dimensional print.
The art form began as a layering technique thought to have originated in Venice in the 18th century. The creations were usually framed or placed under glass to decorate tabletops. In the 70’s and 80’s the craft had a resurgence using a variety of new shaping and sculpturing methods. I began shaping and creating items from paper at a young age and later developed my dimensional techniques for creating miniatures. Enjoy a look into the history of this beautiful craft and learn some of the techniques I use to manipulate paper through cutting, shaping layering and enhancing the variety of miniature pieces I create.
