Join Carolyn of Carolyn’s Creations in making a half-inch scale backyard barbecue scene in a wooden lattice top box. The class will be taught in 2 shorter classes over the weekend instead of one long all-day class. Students will need to paint their boxes prior to class in order to add the wallpaper, grass and fencing on the first day of class. We will also paint the 3D-printed BBQ, bowls and dishes and construct the picnic table. On the second day of class, we will work on making the food items: Burgers and hot dogs for both the BBQ and a platter for the table, a cherry pie and bowls of potato salad and baked beans. Each student will also receive a finished, filled pitcher and four glasses of lemonade. Also included are the tablecloth and paper plates.
Techniques included: How to make a scene in a purchased container from the craft store. Also, how to use polymer clay and glass stains to make realistic looking miniature foods.
Materials/Equipment Needed:
Basic tool kit (ruler, craft knife, toothpicks, paint brushes, tacky glue, wood glue (optional), squaring jig, wallpaper paste (Yes glue/Grandmother Stovers or similar), paint colors of your choice for lattice box, bowls, platter & BBQ. Toaster oven for baking polymer clay, ceramic tile or piece of foil pan to bake on.
FINISHED DIMENSIONS: Size of container 6-1/4" w x 3-1/2" deep x 5" high.
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner
Students need the ability to handle the polymer clay. You will need to soften it for use and be able to manipulate it to make the food items.
