This class is a 1:48 (quarter) scale depiction of Santa’s mail room in a Christmas mailbox tin. We will create the room primarily outside the tin and insert it once the bulk of it has been completed. We will be building the furniture from kits and the round table from scratch. There is a desk at the back with an Elf that is included with the workshop that have been made for us by the very talented Pat Hamilton. There will be a 3D printed fireplace with burning embers that light which we will paint and a tiny Rudolph that we will be painting as well. There is also a crystal light fixture on the ceiling that was made by Cheryl and that will also light. The exterior is sitting on a base of 2 layers of foam core that that you will be shown how to landscape and shape. The landscaping snow is NOT included with the kit. The instructor will email everyone with the details in December. Also, the mugs and tray of cookies pictured on the table are NOT included with the kit. Everything else depicted in the photos is included. Note that the fireplace included with the kit will be different from what’s shown in the photos. The pictured fireplace was built by hand, but the kit will include a 3D printed version.
Techniques included: We will be assembling some of the furniture from kits and the table from scratch, learn to upholster the chairs, wire for lighting the pre-made light fixture and the fire place embers we will assemble. You will learn the technique for painting Rudolph and the snowman. Assemble boxes and bags for the letters, decorate a small scale Christmas tree and landscape and apply snow. *The letters to Santa will be emailed for you to print and make before class. You will also receive the written instructions via email for your own reference.
Materials/Equipment Needed: Your basic miniature kit. Be sure to have new, sharp blades for your exacto knives. You will also need to supply the “snow” for the exterior. The instructor will email everyone with more details on any other supplies you will need in December.
