February's Share a Memory -- Have You Ever Been Featured in The Gazette?

Since February is celebrating our Gazette, our second challenge -- the memory challenge -- is asking: "Have you ever sent anything into the Gazette? How did you feel when it was published?"

Please send your submissions (with a picture of the article if you'd like) to Julie Stuckmeyer (julies3333@gmail.com) and it will be published on this page.

Create's Julie French says:

I recently had the excitement of sharing my quarter scale 'Camp Makamini' cabin in the latest Gazette issue. It was so thrilling to see something I created in print with my words explaining how it came to be. I had never thought about submitting anything to the Gazette for publication and I’m so glad I took the step to share. What I love about reading through the Gazette is seeing how miniaturists come up with their ideas and how they bring them to life. I am honored to be part of the NAME community and would encourage all miniaturists to reach out to the Gazette and submit their projects. You never know when something you created will speak to another miniaturist and spark their creativity or solve a challenge they are up against. We can only get better through sharing and I will continue to share moving forward. I hope everyone else will do the same and then you will get the same excited feeling I had seeing my project in print.

From Laura Seibert:

I have had a picture of one of my miniature settings printed in the Miniature Gazette once. Brian Tig Hughes sent in an article with photos about the Christmas in Mini's/Winter NAME POD for the November/December 2018 Gazette. We had done Christmas in July in 2018, and made winter scenes out of an AMAC box (or something similar). Those of us in that NAME POD on Facebook that chose to participate sent in our photos. We are on pages 19 and 20. My photo is on page 20. I made the doll, the teddy bear, and the treetop angel. I used my Souvenir from the Sacramento March 2017 Houseparty by Ruth Stewart in this scene. I am listed as Laurie Seibert, instead of Laura Seibert, but I can be Laurie if you want!

I have been featured in the Gazette. I have also had directions for a slipper chair in there, but I can't find my copy of it right now.

From Mary Myers:

I joined NAME in 2007 and attended the next Convention, which happened to be in Indianapolis. I wrote a letter to the editor about my wonderful experience at the Convention. Unfortunately, I can't find 2007 Gazettes on line; it skips a chunk of years and I don't keep my Gazettes; I pass them out at events for advertising. I was hoping my letter could be including in the Gazette Memory article.

From Jean Ellsworth:

I have been very blessed to have been a member of NAME for 47 years. My NAME friends have been a second family for me. I have made so many friends from all over the world and I have so many priceless memories. In 2015, I decided to do a 1:12 scale room to depict some of my wonderful memories. I displayed it at the National Convention in Indianapolis that year.

I was so honored when Dorothy Hansen called me and said she wanted to put it on the cover and asked me to write an article about it. It was so much fun to share my room. Of all the miniatures I have completed over the years, this is the one I treasure the most. I sure hope one of my kids will keep it someday. I actually have 3 or 4 more boxes of things I wanted to include, but there was not another inch of space. I had to select the most important ones. Now I need to add items from our 50th Anniversary.

The memories include my years as A3 Regional Coordinator, my years on the NAME Board, souvenirs from all the Houseparties and 1984 Convention that I chaired, my Teddy Bear collection that I purchased at each event I attended as NAME President, special gifts from special friends and many more. Thanks for the Memories.

From Paula Francis:

It is always so interesting to see, month to month, all the activities that other clubs and NAME members are doing, especially in this time of Covid where face to face meetings are few and far between. The submission I chose was Tiny Treasures Society’s (of Quincy, Massachusetts, M-2 region) annual State Day gathering. Our project, designed by member, Connie Reagan, was a huge success and it lent itself to so many interpretations. Such a fun day with the project, raffles, prizes, great food and the sharing of ideas. Great meeting up with old and new friends.

From Dia Crissey-Baum:

I’ve been fortunate enough to be featured in the Gazette three times since 2020! The most recent was the Nov/Dec 2021 issue with our Witchy Vanity club project. I was on the back cover and had three whole pages for my Hatter’s House in the Jan/Feb 2021, which completely floored me when I saw that article! But my favorite was the first one, on the heels of the 2019 National. The article was titled “Tiny House, Tiny Cars, and a Tiny Disaster: A brief report on NAME National 2019, Franklin, TN.”  I’d met the editor (Cynthia Ericson) at the convention. My older child, Kade, was taking a class with her, but somehow it worked out that she asked me to take some pictures and give her a report on the event.

I had been selected to sell at the Mini Mart that year, and the success of the mini mart completely blew my mind! Plus, I reconnected with an old friend from grad school!  I got to take some awesome classes, too! It was really fun, and I had a ball!

Until.

Coming back from lunch one day and when I turned the key in the car ALL the warning lights came on and they DIDN’T GO OFF AGAIN. I limped the car to the dealership nearby, and after a bit of a wait, they let me know they could get the parts. By Tuesday (yes, a couple days after National was over). Enter the tiny car, a peppy, sporty red little thing. Whee! Kade and I got to spend a couple extra days in and around Nashville. We did the cheap touristy things like go to the Dukes of Hazzard Museum (free!) and the Lane Car Museum (they have lots of really tiny cars there) and the dollhouse shop, of course! Long story short (I know, too late) we did eventually get home, and our adventures were memorable!
