Since March is celebrating the NAME Office and Museum, our second challenge -- the memory challenge -- is asking: "How has your workspace changed over the years?"
Please send your submissions (with a picture if you have one!) to Julie Stuckmeyer (julies3333@gmail.com) and it will be published on this page.

Cat Wingler says:
I started miniatures so long ago that my first workshop was the middle of my childhood bedroom floor. A pair of scissors and paste were my first tools. I was a whiz at cardboard dollhouses! I rediscovered miniatures (really, I never left) as an adult and usually worked on the kitchen counter. When I was able to move to a “real workshop” in the garage I was thrilled. Since then, I’ve grown into different and much better spaces but this was the first place I could devote entirely to miniatures. Cramped, bad lighting, crummy sheet of plywood for a table --- it was nonetheless my own personal piece of Heaven.

From Julia Greenhalf:
My first workspace was the dining room table when I was in a small flat over 25 years ago and had to be collapsed if visitors came round as there wasn’t room for both!! My tools were minimum and kept in a shoe box but how things have changed!! Since getting re-married and acquiring a step daughter who lived with us, I put all my things in a small bedroom. Once she moved out, we gutted her room and I took advantage of chests of drawers and desk, none of which gave a good even surface. Eventually, my husband decided that I should have a “proper” workroom and we had shelving and storage fitted and I expanded into the space available! I daren’t show you a photo as it looks chaotic but I know where most things are!

From Julie Stuckmeyer:
I got back into miniatures about 15 years after a 10+ year gap while raising my children. When I first started I set up a table in a basement storage room (nicknamed "The Cave" by my husband since it had no windows and was dimly lit). Everything was shoved into that room including the cat's litter box! Then I shared my husband's workroom but when I took over more than half of it, we decided I needed a room all to myself for miniatures. I was so excited in 2014 to finally get a space all for myself that I took a picture to post to Facebook.
The lighting was still pretty abysmal but it was neat.
Today it is much more cluttered but the lighting is phenomenal!

From Cheryl Polito:
When I started my workspace was anywhere I could setup and work but mainly on my kitchen table. I took a break for family issues and have been back almost two years. I feel like I started over but I have a pretty big stash, lol. I now work in several places again but my main spot is in my bedroom on my hubby’s desk that I commandeered. As soon as I finish a project I promised for my daughter in law I will be setting up the spare room as my craft room. I am so excited.

From Carol Gill:
We live in a senior facility with limited options. Before our move I had a separate workroom with a huge walk in closet. Not so in this unit. My “workroom” is now a folding table in the sunroom with no convenient storage nearby so I am constantly up and down going to a closet in another room for supplies. Tried to convince myself that the “exercise” was good for me but so far no obvious changes.

From Debbie Colombo:
I don’t have a picture of my first workspace, but I can tell you it was a folding table in the spare room. Well that room was only spare for a while, as our daughters grew up, they wanted their own rooms. So I graduated to a folding table in the basement. As we worked on finishing the basement, it was my hubby who suggested making a room -- Imagine, a whole room! -- dedicated to my minis! My basement was also finished with a family room, which didn’t get used much when our girls moved out. So now I use that whole large room for displaying my minis.
