August 2024 - Fairies and Fairy Gardens

For August, our theme was Fairies and Fairy Gardens.

Here are the beautiful submissions.

This month's sample challenge came from Julie Stuckmeyer:

I made "Magical Miniatures" because I always envisioned that was how miniatures were created. After all, how could such amazing things be made by mere mortals? Magical Miniatures is a Miniature/Dollhouse store that is currently closed. However, four fairies are hard at work (or hardly working) to get things ready for the next day.

The two on the ground floor are hard at work.

From Barb Antol:

This little 1:48 scale gazebo is one I built several years ago using a kit from JMan Laser Crafts. Inside, two little fairy dolls by Sally Reader are enjoying an afternoon tea party. Their butterfly chairs and table were kits from BJ Minis and the tiny tea set was from Desert Minis.

From Lo Sikora:

Tucked away in this garden scape is by far my smallest fairy … only a few millimeters, hand carved with care (and sweat, and tears!). You can only see her during sunset when light shines through the hole in the brick wall. Super magical!

Some years ago we did a challenge on the Swap Shop groups.io to make a scene in broken flower pots. Here is mine with various little people: a gnome, an elf, and a fairy hanging out her laundry.

From Terri Correll:

This is my fairy project. It's "The Fairy Queen's Patio".  The furniture was made by Sue Thraite (sorry I don't know how to spell her name), Lady Bug.  If you look at the gazing ball, you can see that the Queen has her rival imprisoned in it.

From Jan Larimore:

I made this years ago and recently did a refresh. Saw the cloche at an antique store in Sun Valley, but I didn't want to pay the price. Then the next spring The Stick People came to our show in Boise and I knew I NEEDED the cloche. Luckily it was still there when we went back in the summer. I took a workshop from The Stick people and started on the build. Nothing else got done for days while I worked on it. Found the tiny naked dolls at a show in Denver. Dressed and wigged them, bought a lot of stuff from Lady Bug and The Stick People. Foraged lots of natural stuff from our yard and the mountains. I'm sending three pictures, you choose two. I thought the cloche was necessary to get the full picture, but the thing is a full 360.

This was a 2014 club project using a fantasy theme. A flower fairy overlooks a gnome's abode, a tiny fairy stands under the weeping cherry tree, and an Irish fairy reads a book about fairies.

This is of a fairy garden using real plants from a class given by local nursery.

A few years ago my Michigan mini club hosted friends from Indiana. They helped us make a fairy scene with cutout mini gourds and a hook to get things started. I added the landscaping.

From Mae Karoli:

Both of these fairy scenes were made by Linda Farris of Miniature Wishes by Linda.  The fairy garden in the first picture is shaded by a large leaf with dew drops on it.  The second picture has 3 fairies, one in the hollow tree trunk, one sitting in the grassy area just left of center and the last one between the mushrooms and tree trunk.

This 1/2 inch scale basket house and garden and furniture was done in a workshop at a smaller scales convention many years ago. It was fun making the Fimo fairy family to inhabit it.

Here are my group of Fairies and mythical creatures from over 25 years ago. I don’t know the artist of these 1” dolls but they are still waiting for a display.

From Judith Riggs:

This is my Fairy House. It is 1/12 scale. It started as a bird cage. This house is my favorite piece to show when we do our miniature exhibits. I can let the kids touch it and feel all the different textures. You can't tell by the photos but the flowers are lights. I have the kids look for the fairies, pixies, gnomes, and the Mandrakes (Harry Potter). It is always a big hit with the kids.

Here is my combined fairy village. I've been collecting fairies for many years from many different makers and this is almost all of mine ... except for 5 bigger ones that wouldn't fit. Enjoy!

Every online convention has been a joy to attend. I want more of them. Here is my version of the treehouse built by the shipwrecked quarter connection group members and the Fairies found a cave with hidden pirate treasure that is my submission for Create’s August challenge.

From Laura Hancock:

I'm a new member of NAME, and I would like to submit a fairy mini for this month's challenge. My 10-year-old son and I worked on this together. His vision and execution, and my help with materials, tools and hot glue. He wanted a glowing fairy in a fairy ring, so that is what we made. Composed of fake moss, foam mushrooms, an LED, sparkle, and regular hot glue.
