Camp Make-A-Mini

Mini Minute: Paint brushes
Always wash your brush until there is no more paint left. Use a rag or paper towel to check for residual paint. If any, wash /rinse again.
Don't leave brushes in rinse water.
Get fresh water often if painting a lot. Water can be cloudy but not look like paint itself.

July 20

July 16
Show off your membership in a great organization. Make these for yourself or a friend. Click here for the .pdf.

Mini Minute: Cutting paper
It is always best to use a sharp knife. A sharp knife will cut easier and be safer because it requires less pressure.
Use a metal ruler because it won't get knicks or cuts from the knife.
Don't use scissors for straight cuts.
Lay the ruler over the printed part. This will protect the print when cutting.
When making multiple cuts keep the blade straight.
Also, the blade can dull when cutting thicker material, so change the blade if it becomes harder to cut.

July 15
Cool off today by singing this silly song. Click here for the .pdf.

At camp it is possible that you may run into a bear. If you look at this Bear Bench pdf, then you just did. No need to run away, just make it in 1/2" scale. Or if you like, you could reduce by 50% when printing for 1/4" scale patterns, reduce the measurements in half in each direction as well. Click here for the .pdf.

Mini Minute: Spreading glue
When applying glue to a large area, use a squeegee. A cheap alternative is an old credit card or similar card.
Lay paper on another paper. Apply enough glue to cover the surface. Then use the spreader (squeegee) to make sure that the glue is spread across the entire surface evenly.

Camp Make-A-Mini

July 1
Welcome to Camp Make-A-Mini!

Camp Make-A-Mini is not a place, but a mindset. Take time this month to make a miniature. It could be a house, a piece of furniture, some food, or anything in miniature. Of course, we have a special camp project offered by Dia Crissey-Baum. It can be ordered up until July 23rd, but must be ordered by July 2nd to be received in time for the ZOOM session.

To encourage you to make a miniature, we are sharing many tutorials that can be used with the NAME LOGO House or on their own. All these tutorials were reprinted from the Miniature Gazette going back to 1989. The pdfs were graciously made available digitally by Dorothy Hanson, Gazette editor for 19 years.

To start off our making miniatures month, try this folded NAME birdhouse for 1" or 1/2" scales. Print at 50% for 1/4" scale and cut out the one labelled 1/2" scale. Click here for the .pdf.
