Camp Make A Mini 026-Create Share
Tuesday, August 25 | Free Zoom Session

For this Create Share, we'll explore two simple weathering techniques using materials you may already have at home: moss for creating aged, weathered wood and cinnamon for creating realistic rust and texture.

Please have the following supplies ready so you can follow along during the demonstration.

What You'll Need

For the Mossy, Weathered Wood Technique

  • 1 small piece of unfinished or painted wood to practice on
  • A scrap of basswood, miniature fence, crate, sign, furniture piece, etc. works perfectly.

  • Matte medium, Mod Podge, or another suitable adhesive

Optional Supplies
These aren't necessary, but they're fun to have available if you already own them:

  • Chalk pastels or weathering powders
  • Fine dirt or soil
  • Very fine sand
  • Coffee grounds
  • Additional shades of brown and green acrylic paint
  • Old toothbrush
  • Extra moss or natural materials for experimenting

Before the Session

To get the most out of the Create Share, please have one small wooden object and one small metal or metal-painted object ready to weather.
It also helps to have your work surface set up before we begin, with your paints, brushes, water, paper towels, cinnamon, moss, and adhesive within reach.

No special miniature-weathering products are required. Use what you have!
We'll be experimenting, layering, and learning how to make new-looking miniatures look like they've been around for a very long time.
